The 2025 Ambassador’s Cup Badminton Tournament was held for the third time at the Indoor Sports Complex of the University of Colombo recently and the overall championship of this tournament went to the University of Colombo while the runner-up was the University of Peradeniya.
Ms. Wasantha Ratnayake of the University of Colombo was awarded the best female athlete in the over 40s category and the best female athlete in the staff open mixed team event, Prof. Subash Jayasinghe of the University of Ruhuna was awarded the best male athlete in the over 50s category, Prof. Tharaka Dassanayake of the University of Peradeniya was awarded the best male athlete in the staff open men’s team event, while Chirat Illeperumarachchi of the University of Colombo was awarded the best male athlete in the university student team event and Midum Kirthisiri of the University of Colombo was awarded the best female athlete.
Several universities in China and India were invited to participate in this tournament. In addition, staff and students from state and private universities in Sri Lanka participated. The closing ceremony was graced by the presence of the Chief Executive Officer of Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT), Mr. Zhang Jianhui, and the Dean of the Faculty of Management, University of Colombo, Prof. Nihal Hennayake. The competition was organized by the Department of Physical Education, University of Colombo and financially supported by Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT).
