There is renewed focus on organizing a World Club Championship for cricket clubs.

This comes after more than 10 years since the previous Champions League T20 tournament was last held.

The previous Champions League T20 tournament for clubs was held from 2009 to 2014, and was organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Cricket Australia and Cricket South Africa.

However, only six seasons were held under that tournament. Due to low audience response, the tournament was abandoned after 2014.

More leagues have been launched around the world than at that time. In the past few years, tournaments such as the Sri Lanka Premier League, England’s Hundred, South Africa’s SA20, the UAE’s ILT20, and the US’s Major League Cricket (MLC) have been launched.

Global club tournaments are now becoming very popular in other sports, and in particular, the Club World Cup in football has been expanded to 32 teams. The tournament will begin in the US on the 14th. A similar Club World Cup for rugby is scheduled to start in 2028.

England Cricket has now reiterated the need for such a tournament for cricket. It is said that work on it is currently in its initial stages.

The focus is on holding this Club World Championship tournament in both the men’s and women’s divisions. Last year, Guyana in the West Indies organized a tournament called the Global Super League, which featured teams from five global leagues. The second phase of the tournament will be held in July.
