Australian cricketer Shane Watson has raised a big question about the role of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Speaking to Fox Sports, Watson said that if this was an ICC tournament, then according to ICC rules, the player of the tournament should be awarded to the player who scored the most runs or took the most wickets in the tournament.
Watson said that he agreed that Sanju Samson played very well, but Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan, who scored 383 runs, including two centuries, was the highest scorer in the tournament and therefore should have been awarded.
He further said that the ICC is powerless in the face of India, where even the rules of the ICC seem to make little sense. Watson criticized the conditions, saying that it had never happened before to provide a pitch that was suitable for batting in an ICC tournament. According to Watson, while the ICC’s bias towards one team may work temporarily, such a system cannot last long in international cricket.
