Indian table tennis achieved double success at the WTT Feeder event in Puerto Princesa, Philippines. Sreeja Akula clinched the women’s singles title, while Ankur Bhattacharjee finished as the runner-up in the men’s singles category.
In the final, Sreeja (ranked 63rd globally) defeated Taiwan’s Li Yu-Jun (ranked 54th) in straight games—11-8, 11-6, 11-8—to emerge as the champion with a 3-0 victory. En route to the title, she defeated three Korean and two Taiwanese players. This triumph marks her fourth WTT title.
Meanwhile, in the men’s final, Bengal’s Ankur Bhattacharjee made a brilliant start by winning the first two games 11-7 and 11-9 against Korea’s Kang Dong-soo. Just as the title seemed within Ankur’s grasp, Kang staged a comeback; he won three consecutive games—8-11, 7-11, 9-11—to ultimately claim the championship with a 3-2 victory.
While one lifted the winner’s trophy and the other the runner-up’s, the performances of both Sreeja and Ankur in Puerto Princesa shone a bright light on Indian table tennis.
