Nitasha Kantha and Fasrin Mohamed Nawaz, who represented Sri Lanka in the Mixed Pairs event at the 16th South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship held in Thimphu, Bhutan, defeated other strong countries and won a magnificent Gold Medal for the country.
This victory is worth much more than an ordinary medal. The duo rewrote the history of Sri Lankan sports by becoming the first Sri Lankan pair to win a gold medal in the mixed pairs event at an international championship officially sanctioned by the World Bodybuilding and Physique Federation (WBPF).
Winning an international WBPF level gold medal for the country in an event that has not received much attention in Sri Lanka, where the proportionality of body shapes and the rhythm displayed on stage are fundamental, is a huge progress and a historic milestone for the Sri Lankan bodybuilding industry.
