The UCLA team managed to win the Big Ten Championship (2026), the world’s most powerful university sports association, for the second consecutive time.
The highlight of this is that our own Sri Lankan-born Tiana Sumanasekera stood out as a strong player in that victory.
The UCLA team managed to record a historic victory by scoring a total score of 198.100.
Tiana’s talent here was to secure the team’s victory by scoring a high score of 9.925 in the Balance Beam event. She has been awarded the Big Ten Freshman of the Week four (4) times this season alone.
Tiana has garnered international attention for her gymnastics performances, which incorporate Sri Lankan and Bollywood dance elements.
Standing alongside great athletes like Olympic champion Jordan Chiles, Tiana’s feats are the highest ever achieved by an athlete of Sri Lankan origin in the history of gymnastics.
