Sonal Tranchell, a student of the Asian International School (AIS), Sri Lanka, won two gold medals at the New South Wales Regatta 2026 held at the Manning River Rowing Association in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, from 9 to 11 January. He won first place in the men’s open singles and open doubles. Sonal Tranchell is the youngest foreign athlete to achieve such a feat in the competition. He is currently a 14-year-old schoolboy.

More than 500 athletes participated in this tournament, and all the events in this tournament were 2KM races. With this talent, he got an opportunity to comment on 7News, a major media channel in Australia. His Sri Lankan coach is Sanjeewa Guruge, while the foreign coach is Australian national Howard Crocker.
