The Lanka Ride bicycle ride concluded today (18) at Torrington Square in Colombo. The closing ceremony was held under the patronage of the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage.

Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Dinindu Saman Hennayake, Deputy Minister of Defense Aruna Jayasekara, Secretary to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Aruna Bandara, Colombo District Parliamentarian Devananda Suraweera, Colombo Mayor Vrai Kelly Balthazar, Director General of the Department of Sports Development S. Achchuthan and other officials of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports were present at the event.

The bicycle ride covered five provinces and covered a distance of nearly 450 kilometers. 27 teams participated in the cycling event.

The Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage, said that the 21-year-old Lanka Ride cycling event is an introduction to a new sports culture.
The Minister stated that there is hope that sports in Sri Lanka can be developed and that the competition has received great support from the people.

The Minister further stated that cycling in Sri Lanka will once again be elevated to the top and taken to the international level,
and that it has been possible to give away more than 4.1 million in cash prizes.

At the end of today’s competition, prizes were first given to the winners of the third stage.

Accordingly,
*Fifth place went to H. A. Mr. M. Perera
*Fourth place was won by Mr. Gihan Lakmal of Dehiwala Mount Lavinia Sports Club
*Third place was won by Mr. Dilshan Tharusha of the Air Force Team
*Second place was won by Mr. Praveen Saderu of the Super Speed ​​Sports Club
*First place was won by Mr. R. T. S. Dayananda of the Army Team.

Prizes were then given to the top 25 in the tournament.

Saranga Perera of the Sri Lanka Army Team won awards and prizes as the fastest cyclist and the best mountaineer of the tournament.

Deshan Kavinda of the Ja-Ela Sports Club won awards and prizes as the best youth player under 23.
Third place in the overall tournament was won by H. W. M. S Pinthu won the first place, while P.D.S.P. Chandika of the Navy team won the second place. Saranga Perera of the Army team won the overall championship.

The team championships were awarded here and accordingly, the second place went to the Dehiwala Mount Lavinia Sports Club and the first place went to the Sri Lanka Army team.
