The Sports Medicine Institute, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, organized the first series of Sports and Exercise Medicine workshops for the first time yesterday with the aim of raising awareness about research conducted in sports and exercise medicine for the advancement of the sports sector. Its Sports Medicine Conference was held today (Nov. 15) at the CEWAS Institute under the patronage of the Deputy Minister of Sports, Sugath Thilakarathna, Deputy Minister.
Researchers, doctors, physical therapists and university lecturers and professors were provided with knowledge on the use of scientific methods and obtaining data. It was also unique that such a conference was organized for the first time. This series of workshops was held for three days. It is hoped that this will provide the necessary research data to lead the sport to victory in the future.
The event was attended by the Director General of the Department of Sports Development, V. Premachandhiran, Additional Secretary, N.P. N. M. Wickramasinghe, Director General of the Institute of Sports Medicine, Lal Ekanayake, Director General of Planning, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, R. M. K. U.
