The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports officially announced today that the “Colombo Marathon,” organized for the first time by the Ministry, will be held in Colombo in September 2026.
Speaking at a special press conference held today at the Duncan White Auditorium of the Ministry of Sports, the Hon. Sunil Kumara Gamage, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, emphasized that this event will be instrumental in placing Sri Lanka in a prominent position on the global map as a premier international sports tourism destination.
With an expected participation of over 4,000 local and foreign athletes, this marathon will also serve as a testament to Sri Lanka’s commitment toward achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The event will feature five race categories:
Full Marathon (42.195 km)
Half Marathon (21.097 km)
10 km Race
5 km Fun Run
Kids’ Mini Run (1–2 km)
Technical operations will be overseen by a team of 100 qualified officials from Sri Lanka Athletics.
