The first ever 3-stage “Police Bike Ride – 2026” organized by the Sri Lanka Police to mark the 160th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Police on 03.09.2026 commenced on the morning of 01 September, under the patronage of the Hon. Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Ananda Wijepala, and with the participation of Senior DIG Sanjeewa Dharmaratne, from near the Colombo Police Headquarters.
The main objective of the competition, which is being held under the full supervision of the Ministry of Sports and the Cycling Federation, is to establish trust and mutual understanding between the Sri Lanka Police and the youth community to maintain law and order and to carry out propaganda activities to wean the youth community from drug use.
The first stage of the bike ride was an exciting one from Colombo to Dambulla, and the competitors reached Dambulla town amidst the unwavering support of police officers and people on both sides of the road via Colombo, Peliyagoda, Nittambuwa, Warakapola, Kurunegala, and Melsiripura.
The prize distribution ceremony for the winners of the first stage is scheduled to be held in Dambulla town under the patronage of the Senior DIG in charge of the Central Province.
The second stage of the bike ride is planned to start from near the Dambulla town police station at 07.30 on 02.09.2026 and will travel from Dambulla via Anuradhapura, Puttalam, Maradankadawala, Thirappane, Anuradhapura, Nochchiyagama, Kalaoya to Puttalam town.
