The third day of the 104th National Athletics Championships brought back very exciting memories for the sports enthusiasts who gathered at the Diyagama Stadium. K. R. Hirupama won the gold medal by dominating the women’s 200m event.
Hirupama, who finished the race with an excellent time of 24.32 seconds, displayed her speed and strength on the track. After a very close competition of a fraction of a second, P. U. D. R. Perera won the silver medal with a time of 24.56 seconds, while W. T. M. Wanshanayake won the bronze medal.
R. M. R. K. Ratnayake, who put up a strong fight in the competition, secured fourth place in 24.63 seconds and W. S. H. Fernando secured fifth place in 24.67 seconds. In addition, K. Pahasara (25.44 seconds), M. G. C. Pramudika (26.05 seconds) and H. M. N. K. Ratnayake (26.14 seconds) came in the front positions respectively.
