Palitha Bandara wins Sri Lanka’s first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games

Para-athlete Palitha Bandara won Sri Lanka’s first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow, Scotland.

He finished second in the men’s discus final with a throw of 46.84 meters.

The gold medal in this event was won by Aled Davies of Wales, while the bronze medal was won by Akeem Stewart of Trinidad and Tobago.

This is Palitha Bandara’s second consecutive silver medal at a Commonwealth Games, having previously won a silver medal at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

His distance of 46.84 meters is also his personal best in the event.
