Sri Lanka will field a 16-member team at the Asian Weightlifting Championships from May 12–17 in Gujarat, India, where 28 nations will compete. The occasion is crucial for Lankan lifters to gain ranking points ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games and serves as the final selection meet before the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow (July 23–August 2).

The team consist of eight men and eight women, with several experienced lifters even now qualified for the Commonwealth Games. Among them is Chinthana Vidanage (79kg), a three-time Commonwealth Games medalist, Indika Dissanayake (71kg), and Dilanka Isuru Kumara (60kg), all considered medal prospects. Rising talents such as Supun Somathilaka, Manoj Wijesinghe, Ruchira Jayasena, and Shaluka Dissanayake complete the men’s lineup.

The women’s team features Ravihari Gunathilaka, Hansani Gomes, Dilini Premaratne, D.M. Madushani, M. Umera, Chathurika Priyanthi, Achini Wickramasinghe, and Anushka Kaluthanthri. Gomes, a 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist, and Premaratne are among those expected to secure further qualifications.

The group will be directed by head coach W.R.M.R. Bandara and assistants Rukshan Gunatilleka, Chaminda Gamage, and Mevin Wijewardena.
