The 130-year-old Boston Marathon, the world’s oldest and most important (Major Marathon) competition, will begin on April 20 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. This will be the 130th competition to be held in 2026. Sri Lankan Gamini Sugathadasa, who will participate in this, will compete in the 55-59 age group. More than 3,800 competitors will participate in this age group. More than thirty thousand competitors will compete for this in the entire competition. Only competitors who have passed the basic level of training can compete for this competition.
This Boston Marathon is held on the third Monday of April every year. The reason for this is that Patriots’ Day is a legal holiday in the state of Massachusetts, celebrated on the third Monday in April. It is a historical event that commemorates the first battles of the American Revolution at Lexington and Concord in 1775. On that day, the people of Massachusetts take to the streets to show their support for this marathon.
