Although considered a “third tier” javelin thrower in the country, Themiya has already managed to attract international attention.
Themiya Bimsara’s performance in this year’s tournament was not limited to just winning. He managed to set a new meet record by throwing a javelin a distance of 69.85 meters.
The most important thing here is that this record was previously held by Sri Lanka’s own Rumesh Tharanga, who is currently ranked first in the world rankings (World No 1 Javelin Thrower). Themiya’s unique ability is clearly evident by owning a record held by a world-class athlete.
With this excellent performance, Themiya Bimsara has been able to meet the qualification standards for the World U20 Championship, one of the highest competitions in the world’s age-limited athletics arena.
