Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar has decided to retire from the Indian domestic cricket field and the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The 35-year-old Shankar confirmed this decision in a special statement today (May 23).
Despite retiring from the domestic and IPL fields, he has stated that he hopes to continue as a player and play in foreign Twenty20 leagues.
Local cricket sources say that there is a high possibility that this former Indian international cricketer will play in the upcoming Lanka Premier League (LPL 2026).
The 2026 LPL, jointly organised by Sri Lanka Cricket and its official rights holder, The IPG Group, is scheduled to be held from July 17 to August 8.
Vijay Shankar, who has played 12 ODIs and 9 T20Is for India, was also a strong member of the Indian squad for the 2019 ICC World Cup.
He has also represented many leading teams in the history of the IPL, including Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Gujarat Titans (GT), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Daredevils (DD).
