Sri Lankan medal hope of the Paris Paralympics Samitha Dulan will contest in Javelin Throw of F- 44 category today at 10.30pm (Sri Lanka time).
The skipper of the Sri Lanka team Dulan is self-assured about his second Paralympic medal said President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Deepal Herath who is with the team as Chef de Mission. Dulan who set up world record at the recently concluded World Para Athletic championship in Japan has to compete with high world rank throwers but he is in good shape to battle with them. Doing his training with Coach Pradeep Nishantha for this event. Dulan the 33-year-old last Tokyo Paralympics bronze medalist with 64.06 m already enhanced his distance with 69.46 m to set up world record last world Para event at this category wanted to improve his achievement to get second Paralympic medal. He had his final training session yesterday under the observation of his coach Pradeep Nishantha.
In the meantime Sri Lanka’s directly qualified wheelchair tennis player, Suresh Dharmasena, made a winning start defeating Josef Riegler of Austria in the first round of the Wheelchair Men’s Singles match held on Saturday.
Dharmasena, only wheelchair tennis player representing Sri Lanka for the second time won by 2-0. He dominated the game with a 6-1 win in the first set, followed by a 6-3 triumph in the second set. This victory drives him into the second round, where he will face a challenging opponent from Britain.
