The Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR) in recent times paid tribute to Yevan David, one of Sri Lanka’s most promising and internationally recognized young racing talents.
Extensively regarded as one of the strongest prospects from South Asia, David has built an impressive reputation through discipline, focus, and an unwavering commitment to his Motorsport career.
David’s journey initiated in karting, where he quickly established himself as a formidable competitor, winning multiple championships and attracting attention across the region.
His progression into the European racing ecosystem – the most competitive and unforgiving environment in junior motorsport – has been obvious by determination and resilience.
Opposing in Europe demands more than raw talent. It requires exceptional physical and mental discipline, the aptitude to handle immense pressure at a young age, significant financial sacrifice, and a strong support system from family and team.
All through his development, David has demonstrated all of this and more. Despite limited sponsorship support, he has sustained to push forward, racing against the best young drivers in the world and earning respect within the international motorsport community.
His long-term ambition remains clear and steadfast: Formula 3 next, and one day, Formula 1.
Throughout the programme held at the DIMO 800 Mercedes-Benz Centre, David spoke openly about his journey – the highs, the setbacks, the financial and emotional demands, and the reality behind the glamour associated with the sport. His honesty and humility deeply inspired everyone in attendance.
SLARDAR was advantaged to recognise him for what he truly is: a symbol of hope for every young Sri Lankan rider and driver who dreams of competing on the world stage.
While David rose through the karting pathway and not directly through a SLARDAR platform, honouring him reflects what SLARDAR has stood for throughout its long history: promoting motorsport with passion and integrity, supporting riders and drivers across all disciplines, maintaining an unblemished event-organising record for over 35 years, and uplifting genuine talent wherever it is found.
By presenting this special programme dedicated to David, SLARDAR aims to bring greater visibility to his career and hopes that this recognition will encourage more sponsors, partners, and stakeholders to support him as he climbs the international ladder.
SLARDAR firmly believes that Sri Lanka must rally behind young athletes like David, who carry the nation’s pride into global arenas.
On behalf of the whole SLARDAR committee and membership, the association extended its heartfelt admiration and best wishes to David.
His journey is an inspiration and his achievement will pave the way for many more Sri Lankans to dream bigger. May his path lead him to Formula 3, and ultimately, to Formula 1.
