Tickets reserved for Iranian fans have been cancelled days before the start of the World Cup due to US trade sanctions (OFAC restrictions). This has blocked US-based entities from conducting financial transactions with Iran, and FIFA has said that the tickets will be put up for resale if a solution is not found.

The move has been strongly criticized by the Football Federation of Iran (FFIRI) and the National Iranian American Council (NIAC) as “political interference” and “an act of retaliation”. Iran has previously had to move its training camp to Mexico for security reasons, and the US has also denied visas to 15 of its administration officials.
Iranian players have been forced to enter and leave the United States on the same day of the match amid tight visa restrictions, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that individuals with ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) will be banned from entering. FIFA has said it will work to maximize the opportunities for its fans to watch the matches amid the problematic situation.
