While a player receiving a red card in a football match is a relatively common occurrence, could you imagine 53 red cards being issued in a single game?
Such an extraordinary incident has been reported from Brazil.
This massive altercation took place during a semi-final match of the Under-20 state football championship in Brazil.
The conflict began during a match between the teams Uberlândia and Mamoré, triggered when a player was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
A heated exchange of words between players and officials from both sides subsequently escalated into a major brawl.
In response, the referee issued red cards to 53 individuals—comprising 43 players and 10 members of the coaching staff and club officials.
Due to the altercation that erupted during the match, the referee was forced to bring the game to an end. Ultimately, the Mamoré team secured a spot in the grand final after the Uberlândia team decided not to participate in the second leg of the semi-finals.
The transformation of a football pitch—a place meant for competing for victory—into a scene of conflict that spiraled beyond the players’ control has drawn significant attention within the global football community.
