South African police say Zimbabwean footballer Divine Lunga has survived a shooting in Johannesburg.
According to local media reports, the 31-year-old footballer was driving through the suburb of Hillbrow when an unidentified gunman opened fire on his car on Sunday.
Lunga, who plays for Zimbabwe’s national football team and South Africa’s top club Mamelodi Sundowns, was unharmed in the attack.
Crime is a major problem in South Africa, which has one of the highest murder rates in the world.
Police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said the incident was being investigated as an attempted murder but no suspects had been arrested. She did not give further details, but South African newspaper The Citizen reported that Lunga was on his way to church with his younger brother when he was attacked.
The suspect opened fire on their car as they were driving through the Hillbrow area, the reports added.
