Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer retires from international football
The greatest and most incomparable goalkeeper of the modern football generation, or the “Goat Keeper” as he is affectionately known by football fans – Manuel Neuer has officially ended his 17-year international career with the German national team.
Following Germany’s disappointing defeat to Paraguay in the World Cup, the great player announced his retirement from international football, leaving the entire football world in tears.
Manuel Neuer, who joined the German national team in 2009, became Germany’s last line of defense for five consecutive World Cups starting in 2010. In 2014, when Germany won their fourth World Cup, Neuer kept a clean sheet for 120 minutes in the final against Argentina, earning the Golden Glove as the tournament’s best goalkeeper. Having played nearly 1,000 professional matches for Germany, including 128 internationals and 827 professional club appearances, Neuer did not have a happy ending like many other superstars. He said goodbye to the international jersey amid tears after the World Cup defeat.
