At the 50th National Sports Festival, Chamara Nuwan Dharmawardana—competing in the men’s 73kg weight class—was named the ‘Best Judoka’ for the 11th consecutive time. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the history of Sri Lankan Judo.
Maintaining the top position for 11 years, amidst an environment where national-level competition is intensifying day by day, is a testament to exceptional sporting prowess that transcends an ordinary victory.
Chamara’s dominance is not confined to the national stage alone. He has represented Sri Lanka on the international arena at two Olympic Games: Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. Furthermore, he brought great pride to his motherland by winning a gold medal at the 2019 South Asian Games.
