Sri Lanka women’s football team, headed by Tushani Madushika, is set to compete in the seven-nation South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Championship, beginning Thursday (17), in Kathmandu, Nepal. The tournament is scheduled to last until 30 October.
The 23-member squad entails of players from the country’s tri-forces, including the Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with athletes from Renown Sports Club (SC) and Colombo Football Club (CFC).
Sri Lanka will face three group-stage matches, starting with the Maldives on Friday (18), followed by Bhutan on Monday (21) and finally against hosts Nepal on 24 October. Other teams in the tournament include India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh in the biennial event.
India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are in Group A though Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan, and Nepal will line up in Group B.
The top two from each of the groups are certain to qualify for the semi-finals on 27 October with the final scheduled to kick off 72-hours later.
Sri Lanka’s coaching staffs includes head coach ex-Zahirian, national player and former national coach Hassan Roomy, technical coach Ratnam Jusmin, assistant coach Deepani Samarasinghe, goalkeeper coach Sampath Bandara, and team manager Hithaishi Jayawardena respectively.
