Suwanji Madanayake sustained his fine form with an all-round performance scoring a gallant 64 not out in 56 balls including 5 fours and a six also grabbing 3 wickets for Vintage Cricket Club against Colombo Friends in a friendly 35 overs encounter, where the match had to be called off due to rain in Colombo recently.
Colombo Friends batting first, Asela Wewalwala (57), Priyantha (34), Punyakantha Abeygunasekara (47), Duminda Somaweera (39), Ravinath (24) and Ranjan (14) took them to a commanding position. Suwanji Madanayake taken 3 wickets, Manura Niyomal , Rajitha De Silva took 2 and with a wicket each by Renuka Nonis and R.D. Nishantha shared the bowling honours for Vintage CC.
In the run pursuit, Vintage CC with 3 down for 24 runs at one stage with Vidara scoring (10), Suwanji Madanayake Madanayake (64*) and R.D. Nishantha (36), the pair together took them to 130 runs, a partnership of 106-run stand for the 4th wicket and with the notice of R.D. Nishantha, Shanoon joining Suwanji Madanayake and adding 11 runs to the score, the umpires decided to call off the game due to rain interrupting the game in the 24th over. Duminda Somaweera captured 2 wickets; Asela Wewalwala and Punyakantha Abeygunasekara with a wicket each were the pick of the bowlers for Colombo Friends.
