A discussion between the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage, and the Sri Lanka Cycling Federation was held today (03) at the Duncan White Auditorium of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The discussion was attended by Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Eranga Gunasekara, Secretary to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Aruna Bandara and a group of senior officials of the Ministry of Sports, while officials from 66 invited associations/clubs affiliated to the Cycling Federation also joined the event.
The issues prevailing within the Cycling Federation and the problems prevailing within the sport of cycling were discussed here and the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports emphasized that he would intervene at the ministerial level to resolve those issues promptly. The Minister also explained that a final agreement should be reached on the issues among the members of the Cycling Federation, and then the Cycling Committee should be appointed, and then the Federation should be convened and the elections can be held. The Minister also stated that the sport cannot be allowed to be disrupted due to the current crises, and that the past period has been spent resolving the crises in the federations and associations, and that since the internal power struggles within the associations are only bad for the sport and nothing good will come of it, steps should be taken to take the sport forward by obtaining prompt solutions to all the problems.
