The University of Moratuwa created a fine performance to win one Gold medal and two Bronze medals at the Inter-University Weightlifting Championships, held at the University of Ruhuna Indoor Stadium in Matara recently.
The best individual performance approached from the team’s Vice Captain Isuru Perera, who clinched the Gold medal in the Men’s 97 kg weight class while also setting a new meet record.
Perera lifted a record 106 kg in the snatch category followed by an additional record-breaking effort of 131 kg in the clean and jerk category for an aggregate of 237 kg.
In the meantime, Duljana Dilshan secured the Bronze medal in the Men’s 109 kg weight category, while Women’s Team Captain Priyangika Perera took the Bronze medal in the 64 kg weight class.
As well, Amoda Attanayake was placed fourth in the 67 kg weight class, Isuri Upadya finished fifth in the 76 kg weight category, Vinuki Bandara came fifth in the 81 kg weight class, and Avishka Akalanka settled for sixth place in the 67 kg weight class.
