
Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) has called two international level athletes, Sumedha Ranasinghe and Nadeeka Lekamge as the Men’s and Women’s Captain for the 26th Asian Senior Athletic Championship 2025.
The meet, organised by the Asian Athletic and South Korean Athletic Association, is arranged to be detained in Gumi, South Korea from May 27 to 31 with the participation of 43 countries from the Asian region.
Rio Olympian (2016) Ranasingha and Hangzhou (2022) Asian Games silver medallist Lekamge will contest in the Men’s and Women’s javelin throw events.
In the meantime, a squad of 20 athletes has been selected for this meet. The team has been nominated by SLA and has been submitted to the minister of sports for approval.
The team includes 13 male and seven female players, as well as a manager and four coaches.
SLA President Major General (Retired) Palitha Fernando stated that it is difficult to predict about the medal winners as several senior players in the Sri Lankan team are currently injured.
In the last edition of the 2023 tournament, Sri Lanka gained seven medals, including three gold, two silver and two bronze.
According to the history of the Asian Senior Athletic Championship, Sri Lanka has won 66 medals, which include 22 gold medals, 20 silver medals and 24 bronze medals.
