Sports Deputy Minister Sugath Thilakaratne has rejects certain media reports demanding that he has migrated to Australia.

Speaking to media from Australia, former Olympian Thilakaratne has explained that he is presently on a private visit and that he funded the trip with his personal money.

He had more said that he will return to the country on 20 February. His response comes after local press reports claimed that Thilakaratne and his family had relocated to Australia.

The 51-year-old retired sprinter who specialised in 400 metres and who brought fame to his country during his career entered Parliament as a National List member of the NPP, throughout the General Election held in November 2024.

It also manifest the first time in the history of local sports where an Olympic athlete had entered Sri Lanka’s Legislature.
