The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) officially confirmed that the Sri Lanka National Football Team will perform two international matches during the June FIFA international window.
The first match will happen on June 5 against Brunei in Thailand, following a two-week-long preparatory training camp in Bangkok.
Sri Lanka is anticipated to field a full-strength squad, aiming for a positive result that will contribute to an upward movement in the FIFA World Rankings.
The second fixture, a high-stakes encounter, is planned for June 10 in Colombo against Chinese Taipei. This match will be part of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers – Final Round, marking a pivotal moment in Sri Lanka’s campaign.
A well-structured training programme is presently underway, demonstrating the progress of the National Team under the dynamic leadership and vision of FFSL President Jaswar Umar.
Since his appointment, Sri Lanka has made a distinguished leap in the global rankings – rising from 207th to 200th in just eight months – a feat recognised by international football experts. Head Coach Abdullah Almutairi will not be on the touchline due to a suspension carried over from the previous match. In his absence, an interim coach from Aspire Academy (Qatar) and the Kuwait Football Association will join the team to lead preparations and match-day duties.
The home match against Chinese Taipei is expected to attract a capacity crowd at the Racecourse International Stadium, promising an electric atmosphere for the national team’s return to competitive action on home soil.
According to FIFA’s current rankings, Sri Lanka is in 200th position, while Brunei is ranked 185th and Chinese Taipei 166th.
