
Sri Lanka women were beaten by 9 wickets in their opening match of the Women’s ODI Tri-Series at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo (RPICS) yesterday (27).
After a rain delay, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur gained the toss and chose to field, putting Sri Lanka in to bat first.
Sri Lanka’s batting struggled from the start, with skipper Chamari Athapaththu leaving early for just 7 runs. Hasini Perera tried to stabilise the innings, but wickets fell regularly, leaving Sri Lanka all out for 147 in 38.1 overs.
Hasini Perera was the top scorer for Sri Lanka, causal 30 runs from 46 balls, while Kavisha Dilhari added 25 runs. For India, Sneh Rana took 3/31, while Deepti Sharma and Shree Charani claimed two wickets each.
Consequently, in reply, Indian openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal started aggressively, reaching 50 inside the powerplay. Mandhana was dismissed for 43, but Rawal (unbeaten 50) and Harleen Deol saw India comfortably chase down the target in 29.4 overs.
Inoka Ranaweera was the sole wicket-taker for Sri Lanka.
The second match of the series between India and South Africa will be detained at the same venue tomorrow (29)
