The Colombo Royal Hockey Club (CRHC) and the Sri Lanka Army Sports Club (SLASC) sealed remarkable triumphs in the opening battle of the Sri Lanka Premier Hockey League (PHL Sri Lanka 2025), held at the Race Course Hockey Turf, Colombo.
The impressive tournament, organised by the Next Gen Hockey Development Society, features 36 preliminary round matches and will run until November 29.
In the first match of the inaugural day, Colombo Royal Hockey Club won over the Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club in a close contest, winning 4–3.
For the Royal side, Waseem Akram scored two goals, while Asam Haider and Bodika Dias netted one goal each. The Air Force team battled courageously, with Sukhdev Singh, Lovedeep Singh, and Ajith Pandit each contributing a goal.
In the second encounter, the Sri Lanka Army Sports Club secured a 3–1 win against Wennappuwa Hockey Club.
For Army, Anuradha Suresh shone with two goals, while Dhammika Ranasingha added another. Shan Nandalochana scored the lone goal for Wennappuwa.
A total of nine elite hockey teams are rival in this year’s tournament: Sri Lanka Army Sports Club, Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club, Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club, Police Sports Club, BRC Sports Club, Colombo Royal Hockey Club, CR & FC Sports Club, Wennappuwa Hockey Club and CH & FC Sports Club.
