With this recognition, the qualified umpires are now eligible to officiate in School Cricket
Tournaments organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association, as well as District and
Inter-District tournaments conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket.
The certification followed a competitive examination held by Sri Lanka Cricket in which 253
candidates participated.
The certificate awarding ceremony was held recently at the RPICS, Colombo, with the
participation of Mr. Samantha Dodanwela – Chairman, Umpires Committee, SLC | Mr.
Mohamed Siddique – Member, Umpires Committee | Mr Gihan Weerasinghe, Member
Umpires Committee, SLC | Mr. Chinthaka Edirimanne – Head of National Cricket Operations,
SLC and Mr. Chanaka Thenuwara – Senior Manager – Umpire Development.
Mr. Tyrone Wijewardena, Umpire Educator | Mr. Sena Nandaweera, Umpire Educator and Mr.
Rusiru De Silva, Umpire Educator were also present.
Level 5 umpiring qualification is the entry point for any umpire to begin rising through the
ranks, with Level 1 being the highest qualification.
