The Regional Development Committee (RDC) of Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) felicitated 46 young and wishful male and female shuttlers who accomplished victories at the Novices Age Group Badminton Championship at a special ceremony held at the auditorium of the National Institute of Sports Science in Colombo recently.
The event, detained under the patronage of Roshan Gunawardena, the President of the RDC of SLB, saw 46 shuttlers who claimed victories in three different age categories at the main Novices Age Group Championship, covering all regions of Sri Lanka, held at Saniro Indoor Courts in Veyangoda, Naiwala from 28 September to 2 October.
The event, organised and attended by the members of RDC and graced by the President of SLB, Rohan de Silva, recognised the winners of Under-11, Under-13 and Under-15 age categories, in both Boy’s and Girl’s segments, of the six-day competition for novices representing 29 regional badminton squads.
The regional development coaches of the winners were also recognised for their commitment and dedication in scouting players and uplifting their standards.
Under-13 shuttlers from the 29 regional development squads covering the entire country took part at the competition where players who reached the quarterfinals up to the final stage were encouraged by the RDC at the felicitation ceremony.
A total of 59 Singles and Doubles players were among them, from 14 pools representing 13 districts of Sri Lanka.
The total of 46 shuttlers from all three age groups who were felicitated included 20 boys and 26 girls.
They were presented with a valuable gift pack each by SLB with the able sponsorships from Sunquick, United Sports, McLarens Group, Mobil, Multilac, McFoil, and TV Derana.
National Institute of Sports Science Director Sajith Jayalal, Sports Development of the Ministry of Sports Assistant Director Rohana de Silva, SLB Vice President Buddhika de Silva, members of the RDC of SLB, Palitha Hettiarachchi, Charith Bodhiseela, Indika Upendra, and Malith de Silva, Samantha Nawaththanna, the Tournament Assistant Referee, parents, regional coaches, and players representing all regional development squads were present at the ceremony.
