The Twenty20 World Cup is scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka in 2026, and it is expected to bring many benefits including international publicity for the country and an increase in foreign tourist arrivals.
A discussion on the 2026 Twenty20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be co-hosted by Sri Lanka, was held at the Presidential Secretariat this afternoon (25) under the patronage of the Sri Lanka Cricket and the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
Attention was also paid to the issue of hosting the relevant tournament in the country at an optimal level in accordance with the rules of the International Cricket Council, as well as the immigration and emigration issues faced by foreign spectators visiting the country.
The positive impact that this tournament could have on the country’s economy and the new economic opportunities that could be generated were also discussed.
The tournament is planned to be held at three stadiums in Colombo and Pallekele.
Attention was also drawn to the contribution of the Clean Sri Lanka program for this tournament.
The 2026 Twenty20 Cricket World Cup will be held from February 7 to March 8.
20 countries will participate in this tournament, and the International Cricket Council has planned to host about twenty matches between these countries in Sri Lanka.
Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuiyakontha, Director (Sports) of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Training Lieutenant Colonel Anura Abeywickrama, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Russell Aponso and officials from relevant ministries, Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Bandula Dissanayake and Treasurer Sujeewa Godaliyadda, and senior officers from the security forces were present on this occasion.
