Sri Lankan para sprinter Nuwan Indika ran a season’s best to finish fifth at the men’s 100M T-44 category in the Paris Paralympics yesterday morning. Nuwan Indika ended with 11.67 seconds while South African athlete Mhlongo Mpumelelo was placed first to take gold medal in 11.12 seconds followed by Cuban athlete Vives Yomel Luke (11.20 sec).

Nuwan Indika in Lane 4 pushed off in a solid start and seemed to be towards the middle of the pack. As the race progressed, it was through a very close proximity to fourth place where he secured fifth place, being only a millisecond off. However Nuwan Indika ran a season’s best of 11.67 seconds, which is a great achievement on an international scale said NPC President Colonel Deepal Herath.

Sri Lankan skipper Samitha Dulan the medal prospect of the team was scheduled to contest in the Javelin Throw F-64 yesterday night.
