At a recent civil lifting competition, 21-year-old Owini Chandrasekhara has set a new record for the highest weight lifted in the history of Sri Lankan powerlifting. She lifted a weight of 177.5kg in the powerlifting. She had earlier won a bronze medal in the shot put at the 2025 South Asian Athletics Championships in Ranchi, India. In addition, she is also the Sri Lankan champion in the shot put.
