The North Western Province (NWP) netball team formed a superb team determination to victory the National Sports Festival (NSF) Netball Championship title recently.
The three-day netball competition was detained at the Kotawila District Indoor Stadium, Matara over the weekend. Several national players were in action representing their respective provincial teams.
The final between North Western Province and Central Province was a intensely fought affair and North Western Province lifted the title with a narrow two-point lead 50-48.
North Western Province gained for the first time since 2011. Dulangi Wannithilleka, the current national netball skipper representing North Western Province was chosen as the Netball Queen.
Dulangi, obligatory national Under-19 captain Chalani Neesha and Bhashini Udagedera were among those in the title-winning NWP team. They were coached by Amalka Gunathilleka with her spouse Ananda Wannitilleka as the trainer.
In the third place game between Western and Southern Provinces, Western Province won with a score of 85-21.
