Under the concept of constructing public playgrounds to create a sports culture for a beautiful life in a prosperous country, the Nawinna Public Stadium Renovation Project was inaugurated today (Nov 13) under the patronage of the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage, said that it is very important to prepare public playgrounds so that anyone can play in order to create a sports culture.
The Minister said that many stadiums that were built by previous governments with huge expenditure and foundation stones have only been completed by laying the foundation stones, and that even though the ministers and chief ministers of the previous governments in the Jaffna district ran separate states, not even an indoor stadium has been built. He also said that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will commence work to construct an indoor stadium in the Jaffna district in the future.
The Minister further stated that steps will be taken in the future to prepare public playgrounds necessary to create a sports culture that covers all areas of the country.
