Methvan Wijemanne of Royal College and Vichinthaya Nilaweera of Stafford International School successfully protected their Boys’ Under-18 Doubles title at the 109th National Tennis Championship, organized by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA), held at the SLTA courts in Colombo.
The pair demanded their second successive championship by defeating Sandas Usgodaarachchi and Nithila Goonethilake in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. This victory marked back-to-back triumphs for Methvan and Vichinthaya, as they also gained the title in the previous edition.
In the semi-finals, Methvan and Vichinthaya overcame a tough challenge from Lisal Goonethilake and Matheesha Neththasinghe, winning 2-1. The scoreline read 6-4, 4-6, and 10-8 in their favor. On the other hand, Sandas and Nithila secured their spot in the final by defeating Akeesha Kajan and Thisinda Bellanaaarachchi 6-2, 6-2 in the other semi-final.
