The Mercantile Hockey League 2024 kicked off in remarkable manner on July 13th at the Air Force Hockey Complex in Ekala. This year’s edition features 13 teams divided into three inexpensive divisions, showcasing the premium talent across corporate Sri Lanka.

In a exceedingly predicted clash from the A Division, HNB faced off against Browns in a match that kept audiences on the edge of their seats. HNB secured a hard-fought victory with a final score of 4-3. The match saw HNB dominating the first half with a commanding 3-0 lead, only for Browns to mount an impressive comeback in the second half, levelling the score to 3-3. Sampath Banks vs. MAS Holdings ended in a 1-1 draw, while Seylan Bank and Hayleys attacked to a 1-1 stalemate, and John Keells Holdings barely beaten HSBC 5-4 in a high-scoring thriller.
