
Ceylon Sapphire Mining Pvt. Ltd. delivered sponsorship for the Sri Lankan Kho Kho Team in the Kho Kho World Cup held in India, while the Indian Kho Kho Federation provided main sponsorship.
The tournament was detained in January at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, India.
A total of 23 countries take part in the tournament, including Argentina, England, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, the USA, Brazil, Peru, Australia, New Zealand, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nepal, Uganda, South Korea, and Sri Lanka.
In the men’s match beside the USA, Sri Lanka scored 111 points, while the USA managed 22.
Sri Lanka gained comfortably by 89 points. In their second match against South Korea, Sri Lanka secured another big win, scoring 91 points to South Korea’s 22.
The third match saw Sri Lanka take on Poland, scoring 105 points against Poland’s 40, winning by 65 points.
With these strong performances, the Sri Lankan men’s team topped Group C and advanced to the quarterfinals, where they tackled India in a thrilling match. The Sri Lankan women’s team played four matches and won two of them.
Sri Lanka Kho Kho Federation (SLKKF) Secretary and veteran sports instructor Athula Wijenayake has functioned for years to introduce Kho Kho and Beach Kho Kho to Sri Lanka.
Ceylon Sapphire Mining Chairperson Sanjeewa Priyantha Fonseka, who was the Sri Lankan Kho Kho team’s Manager, also serves as the Vice-President of the SLKKF.
Associate he in these efforts is Lieutenant Commander Chandralal Nanayakkara, Dayananda Nawarathna, and Budhdhika Ranaraja, who serve as SLKKF Vice-Presidents and Treasurer, respectively.
Furthermore, Ceylon Sapphire Mining Pvt. Ltd. Director Major Aruna Kumara plays a key role in promoting Kho Kho through the company’s support.
