Super batsman Virat Kohli has informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he wants to retire from Test cricket.

This comes ahead of a five-match Test series in England, which is scheduled to begin on June 20.

Cricinfo reported that discussions have been held between Virat Kohli and the Indian Cricket Board (ICB) authorities in this regard for about a month.

The 36-year-old has been in Test cricket for 14 years so far, scoring 9,230 runs in 123 matches. The average per innings is recorded as 46.85.

However, he has not shown any significant talent in Test cricket in the past.

Kohli also captained the Indian team in 68 Test matches, of which India won 40 matches. The number of matches lost is 17. Accordingly, Kohli has gone down in history as the most successful Test captain India has produced.

It is noteworthy that Kohli has also stated that he wants to retire from Test cricket in a context where Indian captain Rohit Sharma has also decided to say goodbye to the Test field recently.

Due to Sharma’s retirement, India will have to compete with a new captain in the Test series that is scheduled to begin in England. It is said that the Indian team is likely to be led by Shubman Gill.

During the recently concluded Australian tour, R. Ashwin also said goodbye to international cricket.
