Discussions have already begun between the cricket boards of both countries regarding the possibility of hosting a limited-overs series between Sri Lanka and India in mid-August, Newswire reports. With the postponement of the Indian team’s tour of Bangladesh and the postponement of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) scheduled for July-August, both countries have now opened up space in their schedules to play other tournaments.

However, while there is no official confirmation regarding an India-Sri Lanka series yet, Newswire, citing cricket insiders, has reported that the cricket boards of both countries are currently exploring the possibility of hosting a short bilateral series. Accordingly, it is likely to be a tour consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is.
India are not scheduled to tour Sri Lanka this year as per the International Test Schedule (FTP). They were scheduled to tour Bangladesh but the tour was recently postponed to next year due to political issues in the country.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is scheduled to leave for Zimbabwe in late August, with the first match of the tour scheduled to begin on August 29. As a result, Sri Lanka has now got an opportunity to host a series with India in mid-August. The two teams last met in Sri Lanka in July and August 2024, when India won the T20I series. Sri Lanka won the ODI series.
