Pakistan batsman Fakhar Zaman has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the final of the Tri-Nation Series against Sri Lanka on November 29.
Zaman was found to have breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
That is, ‘disrespecting the decision of an umpire during an international match’.
This is the first offence in 24 months, and one demerit mark has been added to his disciplinary record.
The incident occurred in the 19th over of Pakistan’s innings, when Zaman got into a lengthy argument with the on-field umpires over a decision to take a wicket.
A formal hearing was not required as Zaman pleaded guilty and accepted the punishment proposed by Emirates ICC International Match Referee Ryan King.
The charges were brought by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza, Asif Yaqoob, third umpire Rashid Riaz and fourth umpire Faisal Afridi.
Level 1 offences carry a minimum official reprimand, a maximum fine of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee and one or two demerit points.
