
Hatton National Bank won over Sampath Bank in a nail-biting penalty shoot-out after a goal-less draw at full time in the A division final at the Mercantile Hockey 9-A-Side Tournament sponsored by Singer Sri Lanka on Saturday at the Astro Turf in Colombo.
Browns, NTB and Sampath Bank were also crowned Champions in their categories. The tournament showcased a thrilling display of hockey talent with the participation of 16 corporate teams, competing across four divisions.
Udesh Wijeysekera of HNB was declared the Best Player of the Division for an outstanding performance.
The B Division final Browns beaten Hayleys 1–0 to clinch the championship and remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, with Ravindu Lakruwan scoring the decisive goal.
His outstanding play also earned him the Best Player Award in the B Division.
In the C Division, Nations Trust Bank emerged winning against David Pieris Motor Company, while in the D Division, Sampath Bank (B) secured the title by overcoming Singer Sri Lanka. S. Kamaleen from NTB and Asanka Maduranga from Sampath Bank (B) were named the Best Players of their respective divisions.
Addition to the excitement, Deloitte Sri Lanka marked its debut in this year’s tournament, further highlighting the growing interest and enthusiasm for corporate hockey in Sri Lanka.
