The annual general meeting of the Asian Cricket Council was held today (24) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India joined this meeting virtually.

It is reported that much attention was paid to the upcoming Asia Cup cricket tournament at this meeting. Although the holding of the Asia Cup tournament has become uncertain in the face of the Indo-Pakistan military and political tensions, it is said that the tournament is more likely to be held given the current situation.

The Asian Cricket Council has not issued a statement in this regard so far. Foreign sports media have reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India, which holds the hosting rights to the tournament, will issue a statement in this regard in the future. India had decided not to attend the Asian Cricket Council’s annual general meeting due to it being held in Bangladesh, and earlier reports had suggested that Sri Lanka Cricket would also not attend.

However, all twenty-five member countries attended the meeting, Asian Cricket Council President Mohsin Naqvi said. Eight countries are scheduled to participate in the Asia Cup, which will be held in the Twenty20 format. Apart from Test-playing Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Hong Kong will also participate in the tournament.

The tournament is likely to be held from September 10 to 28, but it is reported that the tournament may start before September 10. Although the official host country of the tournament is India, the tournament is planned to be held in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
