The government has stated that Sri Lanka has ensured maximum security for the much-anticipated India-Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup and has taken every step to ensure that the biggest tournament in world cricket history is held safely and without any problems.

There was uncertainty about the match’s holding earlier.

Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa stressed that this update on the match’s holding is very important for cricket fans who are looking forward to the match.

He confirmed that the match, which was at risk due to regional tensions, will be held in Colombo as planned.

Minister Jayatissa said that despite regional issues that could have disrupted the match, the Sri Lankan government intervened decisively over several days and helped to find a solution.

“We have assured all the teams that we will handle the security arrangements. Maximum security will be provided,” the minister said, urging Sri Lankans to extend their full cooperation to the security forces during the event.

The police have already prepared a special traffic operation to handle the large crowd of fans expected to attend the match.

According to the minister, the direct intervention of the Sri Lankan President, who held a telephonic conversation with the ICC, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, several diplomatic intermediaries and the Pakistani Prime Minister, contributed to the progress made towards holding the match.

Pakistan has officially acknowledged and expressed happiness over Sri Lanka’s intervention, which paved the way for the match to go ahead.

“As a country, we are truly happy that this match between the two nations can be held in Sri Lanka,” the minister said, highlighting how cricket has become a tool to strengthen regional friendship and cooperation.
