Cabinet Approval to Appoint Volunteer Management Boards to Streamline the Administration of Sports Complexes under the Department of Sports Development

The Department of Sports Development has planned to implement a project titled ‘Creating a Sports Culture’ during the years 2025-2027, with the objective of popularizing sports.

Under this project, it is expected to develop identified stadiums and indoor arenas across the country, as well as school playgrounds and public grounds nationwide. As a result, plans are underway to utilize the sports complexes of the Department of Sports Development to technically enhance the talents of emerging athletes and facilitate their daily training activities.

To ensure these complexes are used productively and provide a wider service, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports to establish a five-member Volunteer Management Board for each sports complex. These boards will oversee the streamlining of administration, development, maintenance, and security.

Accordingly, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports will appoint five members from among local intellectuals, community leaders, or individuals who contribute to social and sports development. One member will be designated as the Chairman, while the Officer-in-Charge appointed by the Department of Sports Development will serve as the Secretary of the Board.

The tenure of the board will be three years. According to the Cabinet Memorandum, the Minister reserves the power to remove any member without prior notice if they obstruct the objectives or activities of the board.
